North Dakota Man Charged After Fleeing Emerson Border Crossing and Leading RCMP on High-Speed Chase

Manitoba, September 16, 2026: A North Dakota man is facing multiple charges after allegedly fleeing the Emerson port of entry and leading Manitoba RCMP officers on a high-speed pursuit along Highway 75.

The incident began on the evening of September 12, when Emerson RCMP were notified by the Canada Border Services Agency that a man had fled the port of entry.

According to police, the man had entered Canada from North Dakota and stopped at the Emerson border crossing. He was directed to proceed for secondary screening but allegedly accelerated away instead.

RCMP detachments from across the area, along with members of the Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET), responded to Highway 75 in an effort to intercept the pickup truck.

Morris RCMP later attempted to stop the vehicle south of Morris. Police said the driver refused to pull over and continued driving, prompting officers to maintain the pursuit.

The chase continued north toward the intersection of Highway 75 and Provincial Road 210, where St-Pierre-Jolys RCMP attempted to stop the truck by positioning police vehicles across the highway.

Police allege the driver deliberately manoeuvred around the patrol vehicles rather than stopping.

The suspect then reportedly drove through a ditch and narrowly missed an RCMP officer before returning to Highway 75 and continuing north.

The incident prompted a coordinated response involving multiple police detachments and border enforcement officers as authorities attempted to safely bring the pursuit to an end.

The actions described by police have resulted in criminal charges against the North Dakota man. Further details regarding the charges and the circumstances surrounding his eventual arrest were not included in the information provided.

The case remains before the courts.

Police continue to investigate the incident, including the circumstances surrounding the man’s decision to flee the border crossing and the subsequent pursuit.

The Emerson port of entry is an important Canada-U.S. border crossing in southern Manitoba, and incidents involving vehicles fleeing the crossing can require coordination between border officials and multiple RCMP units.

The accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
