Jaipur, Rajasthan: A dramatic theft attempt unfolded at Bhawani Jewellers in the Jhotwara area of Jaipur when a young woman posing as a customer made off with a box containing 25 gold rings valued at ₹20 lakh.
According to CCTV footage and shop owner Trilok Chand Prajapat, the woman entered the shop under the guise of buying rings. After selecting two designs, she pretended to call her father for an online payment to stall for time. The moment the jeweller turned away to attend to another customer, she grabbed the entire box of gold rings and sprinted down the street.
The jeweller immediately gave chase, joined by local shopkeepers and passersby. After a intense 500-metre foot pursuit, the crowd managed to corner and nab her, safely recovering the ₹20 lakh jewelry box.
Upon being caught, the woman shocked onlookers by allegedly claiming, “I did this because I want to go to jail”. A search of her purse revealed chili powder and chemical spray. She was immediately handed over to the Jhotwara police, who have registered a case and are investigating potential accomplices and her strange motive.
