WARDHA, MAHARASHTRA — Tensions have flared across Maharashtra’s medical community after a habitual offender, identified as Qadir Ali, slapped a female medical officer inside a primary health center in Talegaon Shyamji Pant, Wardha.
The incident occurred during a mandatory pre-court medical examination conducted by Dr. Shraddha Bhumre. Five police personnel had escorted the accused to the facility. After signing the medical documents, Qadir Ali suddenly slapped Dr. Bhumre right in front of the officers.
The entire assault was captured on CCTV, triggering intense outrage among healthcare professionals. Doctors’ associations, including MAGMO, met District Collector Wanamathi C. to demand strict legal action against the culprit and disciplinary measures against the negligent police personnel present. Warning of severe safety breaches, medical officers have threatened to shut down outpatient department (OPD) services until concrete security measures are guaranteed.
