In a shocking case of alleged cheating, Hyderabad police have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly sexually exploiting a woman constable on the false promise of marriage and later extorting around ₹1.5 lakh from her, according to reports published on October 16, 2026, by leading Andhra Pradesh newspapers and television channels.
The accused has been identified as P. Suryanarayana, a resident of Chiluka Nagar. He was arrested by Uppal police after the woman constable filed a complaint.
The woman is reportedly from Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh. According to the complaint, the accused initially created a profile on a matrimonial website, claiming that he was a section engineer with the Indian Railways.
Impressed by his professional background, the woman reportedly trusted him after he promised to marry her. The accused allegedly established a physical relationship with her on multiple occasions and subsequently took ₹1.5 lakh from her in several instalments.
When the woman realised that she had allegedly been deceived, she approached Uppal police and filed a complaint. Police registered a case and arrested the accused.
He was subsequently remanded to judicial custody on Thursday, October 15, according to reports.
The case highlights concerns about alleged deception on matrimonial platforms and how women, including educated professionals such as police constables, can become victims of sexual exploitation through false promises of marriage and financial fraud.
However, the allegations have yet to be established in a court of law, and the accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
