Delhi Police Arrest Two Snatchers in the Act, Recover Three Stolen Phones and Motorcycle

New Delhi, September 16, 2026: Delhi Police arrested two men allegedly involved in mobile phone snatching after officers caught them fleeing moments after they reportedly snatched a phone from a taxi driver in southwest Delhi.

The accused were identified as Sunil, 27, a resident of Mukherjee Nagar, and Pramod, 32, from Sangam Vihar, police said.

According to officials, the arrests were made by the Anti-Snatching Cell of the South-West District Police during a routine patrol.

The police team was patrolling the area when officers noticed two men travelling on a motorcycle from Ring Road towards Dhaula Kuan. As the motorcycle passed a CNG station, the two men allegedly targeted a taxi driver who was standing near the roadside.

Police said the suspects snatched the driver’s mobile phone and immediately attempted to escape on the motorcycle.

The incident was witnessed by Head Constables Amit and Kapil, who were patrolling nearby. The officers immediately gave chase and managed to stop and apprehend both suspects at the spot.

The mobile phone allegedly snatched from the taxi driver was recovered from the accused, police said.

Following the arrests, an FIR was registered at R.K. Puram Police Station under Sections 304(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police subsequently expanded their investigation to determine whether the two men were connected to other snatching incidents in the area.

During the investigation, officers recovered two additional mobile phones allegedly stolen from areas falling under the jurisdiction of R.K. Puram and South Campus police stations.

The motorcycle allegedly used in the snatching was also recovered.

Police are now investigating the backgrounds of the accused and examining whether they were involved in other similar offences across Delhi.

The arrests come amid continued efforts by Delhi Police to curb street crimes such as mobile phone snatching, particularly in areas where commuters, pedestrians and roadside motorists can become easy targets.

Officials said the prompt response of the patrolling personnel helped prevent the suspects from escaping and led to the immediate recovery of the stolen phone.

Further investigation into the case is underway, with police examining the recovered phones and other evidence to establish whether the accused may be linked to additional cases.
