Thunder Bay Police Lay Charges During Six-Day Back-to-School and Aggressive Driving Campaign

Thunder Bay, Ontario — Thunder Bay Police Service conducted a six-day back-to-school and aggressive driving enforcement campaign from September 6 to 11, targeting speeding, stunt driving, impaired driving and other traffic-related offences.

According to police, the campaign resulted in more than 110 speeding tickets and numerous charges under the Highway Traffic Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act and Liquor Licence and Control Act.

Police said five Highway Traffic Act charges were issued for stunt driving, while two motorists were charged with racing a motor vehicle.

Other Highway Traffic Act offences included unsafe vehicle operation, careless driving and driving while suspended.

In addition to traffic violations, police laid eight Criminal Code charges, including three impaired-driving charges as well as charges related to dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and operation while prohibited.

The enforcement campaign was conducted as students returned to school, with police focusing on dangerous driving behaviours that could put motorists, pedestrians and students at risk.

Police have continued to urge drivers to obey speed limits, avoid aggressive driving and never operate a vehicle while impaired.
